Event Categories: Group Your Events

June 30, 2026 support 2 min read

Event categories let you group your events (for example Worship, Youth, or Missions) so they are easier to organise and so your congregation can find what they care about. You manage categories on the Categories tab in the Events section, then choose a category when you set up each event.

Open the Categories tab

  1. In the left side menu, go to Events.
  2. Along the top, select the Categories tab.

You will see your existing categories listed. If you have not added any yet, you will see a note that you can add event categories.

Create a category

  1. On the Categories tab, click Add Item.
  2. In the Category window, type a Name for the category.
  3. (Optional) Under Parent category, choose where the category sits. Leave it on None for a top level category, or select an existing category to make this one a child of it.
  4. Click Save.

Your new category appears in the list straight away.

Use parent and child categories

Categories can have a hierarchy. For example, you might have a Missions category and, under it, child categories for Domestic and Foreign. This is completely optional. To create a child category, pick its parent under Parent category when you add it. Child categories appear indented under their parent in the list.

Edit a category

  1. On the Categories tab, click the name of the category you want to change.
  2. Update the Name.
  3. Click Save.

Delete a category

  1. On the Categories tab, find the category in the list.
  2. Click the delete (bin) icon next to it.
  3. When asked Are you sure you want to delete this category?, click Delete to confirm.

Assign a category to an event

  1. In the left side menu, go to Events and open the event you want to update.
  2. Click the Category field and choose a category from the list.
  3. Click Save.

The Category list shows the categories you have already created, so set up your categories first if the list is empty.

  • Tip: keep category names short and clear so they read well on a phone.
  • Tip: an event can have one category, so choose the one that best fits.
